In the spring of 2003 the National Heartburn Alliance conducted a survey and found that 26% (an estimated 54 million) of adult Americans suffer from frequent heartburn.
So many people suffer from heartburn that it is often not taken seriously, but heartburn can severely limit daily activities and productivity.
Over the counter antacids have fast relief, although the prescriptions show the most potent, longest lasting relief by decreasing the production of stomach acid.

ACIPHEX
Rabeprazole comes as a delayed-release (long-acting) tablet to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day for 4 to 8 weeks, but it is sometimes taken for a longer time. When taken for ulcers, rabeprazole should be taken after the morning meal.

BENTYL
Bentyl (dicyclomine) is used to treat the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. Dicyclomine is in a class of medications called anticholinergics. It relieves muscle spasms in the gastrointestinal tract by blocking the activity of a certain natural substance in the body.

NEXIUM
Nexium decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach. PRILOSEC
Omeprazole is used to treat various acid-related stomach and/or throat (esophagus) problems (e.g., GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome). It works by blocking the production of acid in the stomach. RANITIDINE
